Youth Performance Group Report 2007/8 (2008-9)

 

My apologies for not being able to attend the AGM.

 

Summer Camp 2007

-323 Players attended, 79 staffing posts filled by 44 different individuals.

-New Coaching Syllabus introduced & we welcomed the involvement of England Centrally Contracted Coaches to oversee the coaching.

-Finance:  £2,320 excess income, being utilized to administer 2008/9 activity.

 

Squads 2007

-U15 & U17 Tournaments held in October at Millfield for the Girls and Belle Vue for the Boys.  We achieved a total of 20 player invitations for further trial with England (12 from the boys and 8 from the girls). 

-All squads in 2007 came in on budget with the exception of U17 girls & the majority of the debt has now been recouped.

- For 2009 a total subsidy from East Management of £3,800 for squad activity (as for 2007/8) will be welcome as per the Treasurer’s recommendation.

 

Administration

Fiona Gall has taken on the Administration of 2008/9 activity.  This activity is priority in delivering a central, timely & consistent service to all our users.

 

U14 HiPACs (High Performance Assessment Camps) Preparation

England’s Pilot HiPACs in operation.  The U14 Boys was held at Lilleshall, 13-15 June 2008.  16 Players from each region (7 regions for the boys) were selected & nominated to attend.  The U14 Girls will be held at Loughborough, 11-13 July 2008.  16 Players from each region (5 regions for the girls) have been selected & nominated to attend.

 

Single System JRPC (Junior Regional Performance Centres) Activity & Dates

-Bury St Edmunds JRPC is operating, St Albans will come on line in 2009 (after tender), Tonbridge/Oxted operating this year also.  U16 & U18 squads representative of each of the 3 JRPC locations are being prepared for Tier 1 competition in September this year.

-Increased JRPC activity & venues is resulting in the need to secure both increased staffing levels and also additional stock of squad & JRPC kit & equipment for use.

2)  JRPC Activity for Tier 1 Competition (Bury St Edmunds V St Albans V Tonbridge/Oxted - cluster).  Squad training sessions:

-Boys U17, 2 teams (for U18 Tier 1 Competition) - Sunday 7th/14th September Training, Sunday 21st & 28th Sept Tier 1 Competition (Loughts/Chelmsford)

-Girls U15, 2 teams (for U16 Tier 1 Competition) - Sunday 7th/14th September Training, Sunday 21st & 28th Sept Tier 1 Competition (Loughts/Chelmsford)

-Boys U15, 2 teams (for U16 Tier 1 Competition) - Sunday 7th/14th September Training, Sunday 21st & 28th Sept Tier 1 Competition (Loughts/Chelmsford)

 

3)  JRPC activity for Tier 2 Competition (1 squad selected from the Tier 1 Cluster above).  This squad will compete against 3 other squads selected from the other 3 clusters of Tier 1 Competition.  Our Tier 2 squad will be called ‘Saxon Tigers’ with the others known as ‘Pennine Pumas, Wessex Leopards & Mercia Lynx’.  The team names are intended to create a link with the GB Super League Teams.   Squad training sessions:

- Girls U17, 1 team (for U18 Tier 2 Competition) - Sunday 12th/19th/26th October Training, Thursday 31st October - Sunday 2nd November Tier 2 Competition (Cannock)

-Boys U17, 1 team (for U18 Tier 2 Competition) - Sunday 12th/19th/26th October Training, Thursday 31st October - Sunday 2nd November Tier 2 Competition (Cannock)

-Girls U15, 1 team (for U16 Tier 2 Competition) - Sunday 12th/19th/26th October Training, Thursday 31st October - Sunday 2nd November Tier 2 Competition (Cannock)

-Boys U15, 1 team (for U16 Tier 2 Competition) - Sunday 12th/19th/26th October Training, Thursday 31st October - Sunday 2nd November Tier 2 Competition (Cannock)

 

4)  U15 HiPAC

This will be the same age group (DOB 1994) that attended the ‘pilot U14 HiPACs’ mentioned above.  The girls & boys will be re-assessed, selected & nominated to attend the next England run HiPAC, 26th-28th October 2008, the venue is still to be confirmed.

 

NOTE:  It is to be stressed that we are going through a large transitional period as we begin to implement the Single System.  The Regions together with England Hockey decided that it would be beneficial to start proceedings in 2008 but acknowledged that the official ‘go live’ date for the model is 2009.  Effectively we are in a period of change management.
