East Region Hockey Association AGM –
July 3rd 2008
Development Committee Report
Role -
The East Region Hockey
Association Development Committee will –
- Support -
- the work of the Regional Manager (RM) and
- the county-based Hockey Development Groups (HDGs)
and
- Lead on important development issues as directed
by the Management Group by –
- looking at East hockey generally, including its
ethos and ideology, and
- recommending, agreeing and setting objectives
hockey-wide with management, and
- creating and agreeing plans to attain such
objectives and
- recruiting committee and volunteers as development projects
arise and are approved.
Initial Projects –
The following items are
either up and running and are support roles or (*) enhancements to existing
work or (**)new items.
a. General -
- Supporting the RM and HDGs, as requested, in the
development of the Single System
for hockey in the East.
- Generating interest in, creating need,
encouraging and supporting individual, club, school, county, regional , RM and HDGs’ commitment to -
- an *enlarged Multi-level Regional Coach Education Programme,
- enlarging the pool of qualified Umpires
- enlarging the pool of experienced Table and Technical Delegates,
- ** enlarging the pool of Voluntary workers in all levels of the game.
b. Specific –
- Continuing to represent the East together with
the East President and the Performance Director on the National Single System Panel.
- *Assisting Sponsorship Secretary in generating
medium and long-term contracted sponsorship
for all/any aspects of Hockey in the East.
- **Creating a ’Regional Association’ for current, past and retired players and
officials, open to anyone. In which past services are recognised,
for which events (special interest and social) may be organised and from
which resources (time, knowledge and experience) could be drawn, or, at
the very least, not lost.
- **Examining, together with the league officials/committee,
the feasibility of adding an older
age group(s) in the Veterans’ Leagues to cater for the growing
number of over 50s and 60s players.
Work in Progress –
Since taking on and defining
this role in late 2007 my time, unfortunately, has become restricted.
The work since then has been
in representing the East within (1 & 3 above) The National Single System Panel, occasional assistance to the
Regional Manager at East meetings on the same subject, and initial research
into (6 above) the clubs that may be able to support an over 50’s men’s league.
I expect to assemble a
committee during the 2008/9 season to drive the creation and take on the
running of the (5 above) ‘Past and
Present’ Association.
The sponsorship (4 above) brief, apart from taking initial action to
protect an existing deal, which our President has been able to assist with, has
been on a back burner.
