EAST REGION HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
Chairman Appeals Panel - Report to AGM 3rd
July 2008
My apologies for not
being able to attend the AGM.
Appeals Review 2007/2008
Since the start of the
2007/2008 season the Appeals panel have had to meet six times to hear East Appeals.
The Appeals Panel
hearing these appeals has consisted of John Helliwell, (Chairman of Appeals
panel), Ian Brown, (past Chairman of Suffolk) and Chris Hatch, Secretary and
Treasurer of Suffolk), and Peter Wright ( President of Norfolk). In addition, Derek
Henley ( Herts) has made himself available.
I would like to take
this opportunity to thank all the above officials for giving up their time to
consider the appeals, often at very short notice.
As I have
previously reported to East Management, in terms of Appeal frequency, this is
the worst season for some years!
I would also like to
thank the County Disciplinary Administrators and Mick Pullin, the East
Disciplinary Administrator for their timely action of the required paperwork, allowing
the Appeals Panel to meet and action the hearings on time.
Four Appeals were
against Red Card decisions and two appeals were against East League decisions.
Future Action
During the season I have
asked East Management for further volunteers to be on the panel. As the AGM
will note, there are no ladies present on the Appeal Panel, this is despite
raising this issue at East Management and my personal efforts to ask suitable
candidates.
For next season, all
existing panel members are willing to continue to act in their Appeals capacity
and I will ask East Management to ratify these appointments at the first East Management
meeting after the AGM.
John Helliwell
Appeals Chairman
