1) The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

     Matters arising.

.    Jon Slay from Framlingham had been contacted and the facilities provided made a suitable

double pitch venue for next season.

Competitions: Girls schools. Some counties had not announced their winners by the time

specified in the rules causing unnecessary difficulties for the Tournament organiser.

Mini Schools. These dates had been confirmed as March 7th Boys U13 schools at

Gresham’s, March 14thGirls U13 schools at Redbridge and March 15th Boys and Girls U11

     at Bedford Hockey Centre.

First Aid. The cost of First Aid has been collated, First Aid will be provided at Redbridge.

 2)  Correspondence.  None

3)   East.  John Hendy reported that a new Treasurer Judy Maddever to take over from

Margaret McCall. It would be helpful if Counties sent their Reports from this Committee

to him. He hoped to increase the number of volunteers although would welcome

suggestions as to how this could be achieved.

4)   England. John Hendy had suggested that the minutes of the meetings of the RCC be

published as some decisions had been taken without consultation.

5)  Competitions Update:

An incident occurred at one of the venues for the U14 girls ‘schools. This will result in a

change of the rules of the competition to take into account the late arrival of one team.

This change will ensure that if a penalty is to be imposed on the team which arrived late,

both teams should know the exact nature of this before playing the remaining time.

Indoor Clubs: Entrants had been confirmed for the Indoor Clubs.

The draw for the Mini Schools was carried out.

It was noted that a double pitch venue at Oaklands near St. Albans would be available next

     season.

Concern was expressed that some clubs were playing U12s in the U14 leagues. Is this

     permissible?

6)  Reports from the counties:

Beds.  Beds needs some more friendly matches for their boys. A meeting had been held

with the Laura Swanston their Relationship manager. Finance was causing concern.

Cambs. A written report commented on the JACs and JDCs.  Schools’ competitions are

organised.  A meeting with the new relationship manager, Laura Swanston, would be held

on S. Tippen’s return from holiday.

Essex. Five players had been selected for further NAGs  training.

A  JDC Competition would be taking place on November 20th. A JAC Assessment

would be taking place in January for the U13s and U14s selected after November 20th,

     and all other age groups.

Emerging Schools: There has been a positive response from Schools asked to help run

        local hockey  competitions.

Indoor. Despite a new location being for the Indoor competitions there has been no

increase in the number of teams taking part apart from 2 who just wanted to try the

game. Is it the same in other counties?

Herts. Herts was preparing for the Olympic year by finding out what events schools and

Clubs were holding so that there was no overlap.

Herts Schools  are school games organised by the SSPs. Hockey was to be variant

of Quicksticks with help from Herts coaches if required.

Herts Games. These are competitions between the different Boroughs in Herts.

These are to be held at the University of Herts in the presence of the Olympic torch.

Kent.   All schools competitions have been played.

Norfolk. Norfolk held 3 talent Road shows to attract new players with some success.

However, some age groups have low numbers which is worrying for the prospects of

        the Jacs.

Suffolk . Suffolk is running an emerging schools competition. JDCs were well attended

although the older age groups had fewer players,. It was hoped that Framlingham

College would be used for JAC training.

The next meeting is on February 23rd 2012

Minutes of the Joint Meeting of the Competitions Committee, East Youth Umpires and the Performance Committee held on November 16th 2011.

Present: L.Bant Chairman of the Competitions Committee, F. Wheeler Secretary, S. Tippen Cambs, D. Menear Essex, S. Holloway Herts, A. Wardale Norfolk, P. Watts Chair of the East Youth Umpires, Martin Williams Performance Director, T. Hitchcock and I Francesca.

 Managers of JRPC venues.

It has long been felt that there was not enough communication between the JRPC and the Counties so this meeting was set up to remedy the situation.

Venues D. Menear had visited a Tier 1 Hipac training day.  Both U15s and U17s had been there and the day ran overtime causing parents to be very late. M. Williams noted the comments and would seek to avoid this happening next year.

At Northwood, no time had been allowed for pitch watering.

Communication with players. Details are now online both for the venues and also the feedback. This had helped considerably.

Communication with parents. It is suggested that parents be given a sheet to help them understand for what attributes (Skills attitude, fitness, speed) the coaches are looking.

Coaches. Some reports need to be improved. Players could comment on their feedback online.

Should there be a regional Coaching Director to provide support for coaches? Some counties had Coaching Directors but not all.

JAC Competitions The coaches should attend these. The Competitions Secretary will send the programme to the Performance Director when all the venues and times are confirmed.

Young leaders could be helped to become Level 1 coaches possibly with some sponsorship.

Next meeting April 19th 2012.
